I can’t believe it is almost here! Summer vacation is right around the corner and I couldn’t be more ready for it. Next week is the last week of school, so come Friday afternoon summer officially begins. There is a lot packed into next week so I am sure it will fly by. What is crazy though is that with only 16 days until I take off for Helsinki I haven’t begun packing yet! Usually by this time before a trip I would have packed, repacked and been ready for a triple check that I have everything. The end of this school […]
Guide Book Love
I have always believed that planning for a trip is half the fun. Besides scouring blogs, Pinterest, and countless websites to find tips and things to do, I love a good guide book to help me plan my trips. There is just something refreshing about a book in hand with maps, pictures, and lists of the best of everything waiting to be marked up with notes. Needing a guide book also means a trip to my favorite store, Barnes and Noble. So I was more than happy to check out their guide book selection the other day after school as I prepare […]
Birthday Cheer
The other day I received the sweetest gift for my birthday. The aide that works in my classroom knows how much I love to travel. She also knows my slight obsession with Helsinki and all things Finnish. So for my birthday she found the perfect gift that combines those two loves. She ordered me the cutest bracelet from WANDERER BRACELETS. It is a handmade bracelet made from water buffalo bone and string. Carved into the bone part are the coordinate points for Helsinki. Needless to say I was completely surprised and overwhelmed when I opened such a thoughtful gift. The bracelet […]
First Time For Everything, Hostel Stay in Helsinki
Well, I went ahead and did it. The other day I officially booked my flight to Helsinki and back home from Munich for my summer adventure. June can’t come fast enough! I am so excited to spend a few weeks exploring Finland, where my great grandparents came from, and then set out to see a few other places in Europe. Even better, my sister and I will get to spend some quality time getting to know relatives we have in Turku! But before we meet our relatives, and before my sister arrives in Helsinki, I have decided to take a […]
Learning (Finnish) Isn’t Easy
Recently I had a major lightbulb moment about teaching and learning. To prepare for my upcoming trip to Finland this summer, I decided to embark on a quest to learn a new language, Finnish. For some this may sound like a walk in the park, but for me let me tell you, it is not easy. I have never considered my self a “language” person. Three years of Spanish in high school was my own personal hell as far as I was concerned. A passing grade through Spanish III was enough to meet the foreign language requirement for an advanced diploma at my […]
New Year, New Adventures
Bring on 2016! I am so excited for the new year and all the new adventures that come with it. My travel list is already filling up, and I am sure there will be other small side trips that pop up along the way. Here is a quick peek of my future travels in 2016. February- Spain Along with a group of 22 educators we will discover big cities, little towns and everything in between. I love these trips because we get a chance to visit schools and talk to educators and students from another country. Stops during our 11 […]
