Well, we officially survived the holiday season! As we ease into the swing of things returning to school I thought it would be fun to take some time to reflect on my favorite project students completed so far this school year. I talked a little about our Holidays Around the World project in my last blog post, but I didn’t get a chance to share about the projects students completed. Students had a blast learning about a country of their choice and how they celebrate the holidays there. They worked hard researching, taking notes, and writing informational paragraphs. But it […]
Tech I’m Loving
Podcasts, green screens, Google Classroom, and endless apps. The list seems to never end of new ways to incorporate technology into the classroom. Over the summer I poured over blogs, listened to educational podcasts, and scoured Instagram to catch up on the latest and greatest in technology to get inspired for the upcoming school year. Now that we have two and a half months under our belts, there are a few pieces of technology that I can’t imagine living without! 1.Remind- This is an oldie but a goodie! I have been using Remind for about 5 years now and I […]
SeeSaw for the Win!
Over the summer I listened to some podcasts about a new tool I could use in the classroom called SeeSaw. Now granted I had seen a thing or two about it before on Instagram, but I hadn’t taken the time to research it to find out more. Why did I wait so long??? SeeSaw is both a website and app that allows students to create an online portfolio of work that is shared with their family. It has been super easy to use and the company even runs free PD sessions online, so getting up and started was a breeze. […]
Seven Continent Exploration
We have finally reached the part of the social studies curriculum I have been dying to get to since my grade change to second grade, an in depth look at the seven continents, yay! The holidays around the world unit we did in December was a great intro to the seven continents, but now students will dive deeper into each continent. Not to mention they will get to listen to countless anecdotes of my travels (trust me they love these). My passion for travel and learning about countries could not have found a better fit. Now is the time to install a love and […]
States of Matter Around the World
Science is universal. Take the states of matter for example. No matter where you go in the world matter will still be matter. We are currently studying states of matter and of course I have been thinking, “How can I take this study international?” Well I think I have found a way. Students are gearing up to start a big science project that integrates science and technology. Using information they have learned so far about the three states of matter we focus on, solid, liquid and gas; students will go on a scavenger hunt outside around the school to take pictures […]
Learning About Spain, Easy As ABC
I can’t believe in less than a week I will traveling around Spain! It feels like I have been talking about and planning for this trip forever, I can’t wait to get there! With a bonus snow day today, I decided to take time to map out a few Spain activities students will do to show off all they have learned about this European country. They have already done a little bit of research and blogged about new things they have learned, but now it’s time to get down to business. Before Leaving For Spain I already have mini […]
Packing Light Round 2: Carry On
After pairing down my checked luggage for Spain to a carry on size bag, which at this point if stuffed to the gills and would never fit in those tiny overhead bins, I decided my carry on could use a little trimming. I had to do a little more cramming into my checked luggage (meds, converter, flashlight, you know the essentials) but the zipper still closes so we’ll call it a success! By putting those last few items into my luggage I was able to get my backpack down to a reasonable load that won’t break my back. Not to […]
Travel Tech Favorites
There are so many things to pack when going on a trip but my tech pieces are usually top on my list to pack, repack and then check again to make sure I have them all! Here are my tech tools I can’t live without when I travel. My Nikon Camera– I have been obsessed with photographs and photography since I was in high school and took my first class. I have upgraded since my days of film and darkrooms into a world of SD cards and digital print. Without my camera I would feel like I was missing a […]
