Santorini is famous for breathtaking sunsets. Specifically, Oia is the town that is known for the best vantage point for the sunset. Unbeknownst to us, when we booked our AirBnB cave house (which you should totally stay in if you go to Oia), we would be staying smack dab between the most photographed place to take pictures of Oia looking back on the town, and the lookout point for sunset. Boy did we luck out!
Our first day on Santorini was quite full, and we were looking forward to relaxing for a bit in our very own cave house. We made it back to the house and we were ready to settle in for the night when I noticed a steady stream of people walking by our patio. Curious at what they were all off to see and knowing it was close to sunset I grabbed my camera and followed the crowds.
Just a short walk led me to the sunset lookout point. Throngs of people were lined up along the walls, sitting on walls and crowded at the edge of the island.
I signaled to Nancy and Lauren to come on down and we settled into the perfect spot to get some amazing pictures.
The sun did not dissapoint! What really topped it off was the reaction. Literally as soon as the sun set over the horizon people began to clap. Never before have I been to a sunset viewing where people clapped. Then to top it off someone shouted, “Way to go Sun!” Which was met with the reply, “I just said that!” Can you imagine? That was a first for me.
(Thanks Nancy for the photos ?)
It was certainly a night I will never forget!

Way to go girls, you found the sunset!! Pure serendipity!
Can’t wait to hear about your donkey ride tomorrow. To which dad would say, “Move your ass”. Wish we were there.
These pictures bring me back to wonderful memories. I want to stay in a cave. Thanks for sharing Katie. Travel On Monica
