Summer Travel, Countdown to South Africa

Happy Summer! The whole summer is stretched before me and there is so much to look forward to, but by far the biggest adventure of the summer will be traveling to South Africa with friends. In fact we leave in just a few short weeks and I have to admit I am so not ready!

My beach reads for the next two weeks

Besides packing which I usually like to do embarrassingly early, that I haven’t done, I feel like I have so much reading to do before leaving. While all the flights are booked and places to stay are set, I feel very behind the eightball on reading up on some of the places we are visiting. I know what my beach reading will be for the next few weeks, that’s for sure.

My sad excuse for pre packing…if you know me, you probably know I’m freaking out it all isn’t in packing cubes already!

On the packing side of things, I have started setting out clothes and thinking about outfits. It is hard to imagine winter weather when summer weather has finally arrived in New England. It is strange to be pulling out long sleeve shirts, sweatshirts and jackets as I wear shorts and skirts here at home. But after multiple checks online of the weather to confirm that yes it will be in the 50-60s during the day and 40s at night, I have resigned myself to the fact that I will need the extra layers.

Goofing around in my new jacket for safari

Once we arrive in South Africa our itinerary will take us first to wine country, staying in the Stellenbosch region, then to Cape Town, down outside Port Elizabeth for safari and then finally back to Cape Town, this time staying by the beach. I am excited we will see a few different places while we are there. While I didn’t want to spread ourselves too thin or spend a lot of time traveling from place to place, I think we have struck a good balance of going to a few regions with time in each place.

But enough daydreaming about what we will do while we are there, it’s time to buckle down and start getting my bags ready!

Do you have any travel plans for the summer? Have you been to South Africa? If you have I’d love to hear your must do list while there!
