Summer in South Africa

Well I finally did it, I booked my flight to South Africa for two weeks this July! This will mark continent number six for me and be fulfilling a long time dream to travel to Africa. When my friend Christine asked me last spring if I was interested in traveling with her to South Africa this summer, I didn’t hesitate in telling her of course I would go! We talked about going and what we would do for months. And now talk has turned into action. It was time to make traveling there a reality. We finally sat down and decided it was time to book it.

Flights check! Next up accommodations and activities.

There is still a lot left to do, and so much to research before the big trip, but that is half the fun. Luckily I have some friends who have traveled to South Africa so I have some good resources. I will be picking their brains on the must see attractions along with the don’t miss best kept secretes to experience while we are there.

So far on the ever growing list:

  • Safari in Kruger National Park
  • Check out Table Mountain possibly by hiking or taking the cable car
  • Take a township tour
  • Visit
    • Apartheid Museum
    • Constitution Hill
    • Robben Island
    • Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens
    • Boulder’s Beach to see penguins
    • Cape of Good Hope
    • A few wineries
  • Take in as much culture as possible!

Now the real research and planning begins. Eeek, I still can’t believe it is actually happening!

  1. A good way to research is to read historical novels about South Africa. You get some factual information in story form. I will see what I can come up with for you. So happy for you. I assume the 7th continent is Antarctica. Hmmmm.

  2. What awesome news! I love South Africa but I’ve only been to Johannesburg. The Apartheid Museum is amazing. I also liked the Soweto Tour, it was very informative. I would be a bit vary of places like Lion Park where you can pet the lion cubs – they are probably drugged to let you do it 🙁 You will have a great time, just remember to be back at the hotel before it gets dark!
